GRANTGENIE FAQs
What is the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program?
The Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program is a federal initiative designed to support and empower underserved and overburdened communities in addressing environmental and public health issues. Through this program, the EPA provides funding to intermediary organizations that help distribute grants, technical assistance, and other resources to smaller, community-based groups.
What is the Grantmakers Proposal Ideas Generator?
The Grantmakers Proposal Ideas Generator was built to help nonprofits develop a draft proposal for the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program. The AI-assisted tool helps nonprofits to draft the program summary, environmental issues, project goals and outcomes, and project timeline in under 10 minutes. The AI-assisted tool takes user inputs and pulls in research from the internet, leveraging extensive databases and current knowledge of environmental justice communities and programs. This approach ensures that the resulting proposals are contextually tailored to each nonprofit's unique circumstances, incorporating relevant data and best practices to effectively address specific environmental and community challenges. By integrating user-provided details with comprehensive research, the tool generates nuanced, impactful proposals that reflect the distinct needs and opportunities of each nonprofit organization.
What is the Organizational Overview Generator?
The Organizational Overview Generator was built to help nonprofits get application ready for federal climate investments such as the Grantmakers Program. The AI-assisted tool assists nonprofits in drafting key components such as the Organization Description, Organization Achievements, Historical Connection, CBO’s Programmatic Capacity, Project Location, and Community Description. Similar to the Proposal Preparation Tool, the AI leverages sophisticated natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to analyze user inputs and relevant data sources. This enables the tool to generate highly tailored and context-specific organizational overviews that effectively highlight the unique strengths and capabilities of each nonprofit.
Why were these tools created?
These tools were created to support and accelerate the deployment of the EPA’s $600 Million Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program to communities at speed and scale by giving nonprofits with limited resources the tools to draft proposals and be application ready when the funding opportunities open.
How are these tools expected to be deployed?
In the initial phase, the tools will be deployed to capacity-building organizations that collaborate with nonprofits at the grassroots level. For example, networks can facilitate an hour-long workshop and invite multiple nonprofits to introduce the tool. By the end of the workshop, each participating nonprofit will have a draft proposal that they can review and refine with community support. Once the proposals are refined, TC-TACs can assist the organizations in finalizing them for submission.
